The measurement of Radon Decay Products, although the actual measurement of the health risk associated with radon, has not been the mainstream measurement that people are familiar with when it comes to radon. The testing of radon has provided accurate measurements of the radon in the air, and is many times a sufficient test for estimating the amount of radon decay products or actual health risk. There are many factors that can affect the validity of the assumption used to estimate the amount of radon decay products calculated from the measurement of radon (see Radon Decay Product Measurement), which can sometimes affect whether or not a building actually needs to be mitigated. The use of radon test devices over working level (for radon decay products) test devices has been a function of the availability and cost associated with such devices. Recently, there has been an extensive amount of research and development in the production of working level test devices that can be used either alone or in conjunction with radon test devices to provide an accurate level of radon decay products and associated health risk.
